In the Quilting Around the World Bee 2, Judy from Australia asked for a block inspired by her Dresden starter block. She also asked for "gelati" colors. Now I have to admit I was not totally sure what "gelati" meant, but I think it means sherbet inspired colors.<br />
<br />
I have never attempted a Dresden so I was excited to try to make this block. I found a wonderful, time-saving tutorial for making Dresdens. This video tutorial is worth viewing if you are at all curious about these blocks!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://2.gvt0.com/vi/lcy_p4pryE4/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lcy_p4pryE4&fs=1&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lcy_p4pryE4&fs=1&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div>
<br />
I followed the tutorial and this is the block I made for Judy. It was fast and easy. I just love learning new techniques and this is one I really like.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjISBxqsveQP9_xFKVO10i6n-_vdW2GTaqNIbPeQ31x8wlDzmxbjQDcudkv8uk2l_h3YhzkJ48Gw1m6_reigIZuHWWQuw-eJ228o8HWAa6X9enzvyd1VxYizWpktITyhsj7Hu1032z6CRc/s1600/dresden2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjISBxqsveQP9_xFKVO10i6n-_vdW2GTaqNIbPeQ31x8wlDzmxbjQDcudkv8uk2l_h3YhzkJ48Gw1m6_reigIZuHWWQuw-eJ228o8HWAa6X9enzvyd1VxYizWpktITyhsj7Hu1032z6CRc/s320/dresden2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The one thing I did differently was instead of using hand-applique to sew the blades to the background, I used a Sulky clear polyester thread on the top and a Sulky white thread in the bobbin and machine appliqued the block to the background.<br />
<br />
Here is a photo of Judy's blocks so far. Her starter block is on the top left.<br />
<br />

I have been spending lots of hours with a web designer who is building a website for me, which is exciting. I had no idea it would require so much time and planning, but I am excited that we are nearing launch time!<br />
<br />
On the sewing front, I have just completed a block for Pam in the Quilt Around the World Bee. She asked for a block featuring strong geometric figures, using clear, bright colors on a Kona Charcoal background. She calls these blocks Jewels in the Dark. Here is my block:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAsXdNBuDHUPaaXqAJFTX8zIJtO6GN7HXwabcPD5ftC766KyuFCp8nqlvViZhYtLWvlaz9VId99lIvrIcVrugBGbjebTM8gOT8O9E76SpLCuMU-XLFRCZzbG0HHPN5E8kuUVeUCi-6DZg/s1600/photo+(11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAsXdNBuDHUPaaXqAJFTX8zIJtO6GN7HXwabcPD5ftC766KyuFCp8nqlvViZhYtLWvlaz9VId99lIvrIcVrugBGbjebTM8gOT8O9E76SpLCuMU-XLFRCZzbG0HHPN5E8kuUVeUCi-6DZg/s320/photo+(11).jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This block pattern is called "Lightening Bolt." Pam said it reminded her of a summer lightening storm so I guess it is aptly named. This is a photo of her blocks so far. Pam's starter block is at the very bottom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzcA9Tl_K2HpMKRy-pzRjSVd6hDw6hWS3DO_a0ebUDD02tJQuEkjWbw4hVQvyyS1_k4lfNDRytUKimP6JSFSrRJDl4NyjkRoEm9lLcbM5xw0wBbMuRmmGvd1d5liU08ZQEJMVITToxUac/s1600/photo+(10).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzcA9Tl_K2HpMKRy-pzRjSVd6hDw6hWS3DO_a0ebUDD02tJQuEkjWbw4hVQvyyS1_k4lfNDRytUKimP6JSFSrRJDl4NyjkRoEm9lLcbM5xw0wBbMuRmmGvd1d5liU08ZQEJMVITToxUac/s320/photo+(10).jpg" width="221" /></a></div>
<br />
It might be interesting to sash these blocks and turn them in different orientations to each other. In any event, it will be fun to see what the rest of the group comes up and to see how Pam sets these together.<br />
<br />

Here it is!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Kay Hocking was one of my pattern testers for my "Going to the Zoo" quilt and this is the quilt that was the end result of her test. I just love it! The fabrics she used are terrific. I particularly love the stripe.<br />
<br />
Thank you for sharing the photo Kay. A job well done!<br />
<br />

I fell in love with the Alexander Henry 2D Zoo novelty print. I wandered around the store until I found a few other prints that I liked with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBZJIx0lf5kfgm-lsVqYV185082BJ_GP6JNGpUijj7eKO2qgp_5qLsUCxc0614xKtOnx7g-FUOeyhyphenhyphennU8sukdH59L1OoceOs4pA2U2JL-irpAeqz1ony32PuzBz2XP2z4wc3kc7-E4V0A/s1600/FB+Photo+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="341" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBZJIx0lf5kfgm-lsVqYV185082BJ_GP6JNGpUijj7eKO2qgp_5qLsUCxc0614xKtOnx7g-FUOeyhyphenhyphennU8sukdH59L1OoceOs4pA2U2JL-irpAeqz1ony32PuzBz2XP2z4wc3kc7-E4V0A/s400/FB+Photo+002.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And now those fabrics have become this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfP-fgU6dTuFqAffSno2kfybAUmk1fr8nt5LOoUGeaweYUIkATl69c1_746r3OQyEUje8ZI2Ly-TUluFYjxmfu1-V1MlaL0w5YwClowSwdwM5euUUxScq083Nqww20gHRHFwPuiNc19U/s1600/CTPhoto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfP-fgU6dTuFqAffSno2kfybAUmk1fr8nt5LOoUGeaweYUIkATl69c1_746r3OQyEUje8ZI2Ly-TUluFYjxmfu1-V1MlaL0w5YwClowSwdwM5euUUxScq083Nqww20gHRHFwPuiNc19U/s400/CTPhoto.jpg" width="326" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And the quilt has become this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiecECIwbWeys3q2vdMRKRsgOsp3uZWJymIsyN1sCDXLzFW2iaACPUQHKeRdcc_R_tYiczcJR8KEDD__gDzAkVGdlmp9kCR1oC-qkNIoBuvtVeqY2cOw-U9QRz00tUfkIZSx6Lr180j3lk/s1600/PDF+Pattern+Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiecECIwbWeys3q2vdMRKRsgOsp3uZWJymIsyN1sCDXLzFW2iaACPUQHKeRdcc_R_tYiczcJR8KEDD__gDzAkVGdlmp9kCR1oC-qkNIoBuvtVeqY2cOw-U9QRz00tUfkIZSx6Lr180j3lk/s400/PDF+Pattern+Cover.jpg" width="261" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A quilt pattern! Finally. I never in my wildest dreams thought it would take so long to publish one easy quilt pattern. I decided to start with a line of easy patterns suitable for novice quilters which gives me some practice writing instructions. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You might notice I have a new logo. I have a website almost ready to launch and this will be the logo for the site, my new blog and my pattern line. More about that later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I want to thank Kay Hocking of Somerville, Victoria, Australia, and Sarah Martin of Pacifica, California for testing this pattern for me. They did a wonderful job and gave me great feedback. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unfortunately, I couldn't upload Kay's photo of her test quilt, but she will be blogging about it on her blog at <a href="http://www.shockinghocking.blogspot.com.au/">www.shockinghocking.blogspot.com.au</a>. Check out her blog - she does amazing work.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is so much fun to see this pattern done in other colors. A million thanks to these two generous quilters for their help. The pattern has been posted on Craftsy and will be in my Etsy shop shortly. That's my news to today.</div>

Pru has been asking for a black and white Paris-themed quilt for her room ever since they moved into their new home, and Julianne decided to use the bee for some help with this project. <br />
<br />
We were asked to make the block from black and white fabrics, with a touch of aqua for interest. I think this is such a sophisticated idea for a quilt and I had a lot of fun coming up with the idea. Here is what I made:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJUOl5nGq9jgZDR1XvVlz3eifR3tRSKym2Nw11OSZFwlZ1p2dcucVt2E3oMouFP4nt9CM9IMJT67hQF-pFT9F7vqa1Ne8DvTNKFy01g3IoOrHoqKf_EAuOU4A4rnpEqCt9dClsIBTQTjE/s1600/Paris2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img $ca="true" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJUOl5nGq9jgZDR1XvVlz3eifR3tRSKym2Nw11OSZFwlZ1p2dcucVt2E3oMouFP4nt9CM9IMJT67hQF-pFT9F7vqa1Ne8DvTNKFy01g3IoOrHoqKf_EAuOU4A4rnpEqCt9dClsIBTQTjE/s400/Paris2.JPG" width="386" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I embroidered the center block with an image of the Eiffel Tower. I got the idea for the design from a wall</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
decal designed for a baby nursery. I like the simplicity of it. I also embroidered a greeting for Pru at the bottom. (Sorry, the photo is a little fuzzy.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I framed the center with a tiny black and white dot fabric and framed the sides with French braid blocks. I haven't sewn French braids in a long time and had forgotton how fun and fast they are to sew.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is Julianne's starter block (upper left), Elizabeth's block, (upper right) and mine. I love the elegant block Elizabeth made. It is called "Cathedral." The project is just getting started but I think they look great. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Amy at Made During Quiet Time is having a creative contest. You can find the full details by clicking here:<br />
<a href="http://duringquiettime.blogspot.com/2012/06/texting-while-sewing-contest.html?showComment=1342050782415#c707868809278900668">http://duringquiettime.blogspot.com/2012/06/texting-while-sewing-contest.html?showComment=1342050782415#c707868809278900668</a>.<br />
<br />
Basically, the challenge is to make one 12" block using text fabric. The block can be paper-pieced, traditionally pieced, or improvisionally pieced. The name of the game is using text creatively in your block. Amy has posted a couple of examples in her blog post and, of course, there is a Flickr group for more inspiration. The block needs to be done by the end of August so that feels manageable.<br />
<br />
So pass the word on to your friends and start looking around for some of that popular text fabric!<br />
<br />
Hope you are keeping cool! It is rather warm here in Northern California today.<br />

I don't know what it was about making a 15" block that threw me, but it did. I made this block three times before it came out the right size. It is basically six rows of 2 1/2" blocks. Not hard, right?<br />
<br />
Anyway, enough complaining. This is the finished block:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkA3lh1MtBxvL2RjpbZGymxOsoInjHhPvrSRSA1QCro4HPRKfrNPGmeyBaHtjlJe3tYcfXWPy2s1nKFhnvr1cm8kuXlS9AJhe7hjbK5NBVhaVJq2Q-gPWC2Mf1EyQmqeXoexvckiOlkys/s1600/Block+for+Elizabeth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkA3lh1MtBxvL2RjpbZGymxOsoInjHhPvrSRSA1QCro4HPRKfrNPGmeyBaHtjlJe3tYcfXWPy2s1nKFhnvr1cm8kuXlS9AJhe7hjbK5NBVhaVJq2Q-gPWC2Mf1EyQmqeXoexvckiOlkys/s320/Block+for+Elizabeth.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
It was fun arranging the triangles until I got a layout I liked. Then I sewed the individual blocks together. I learned that there are a tremendous number of different patterns you can make using this simple block.<br />
Here is my block with Elizabeth's starter block:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2d-vW6fZm2nNbIzuz1Jx7TaMsjTtzDH3m7spd3sCh02rHsh8bTLq4vUxUEx1XBH8zhZ-_rvqwY9HPDhDJMAr_kWGm2jFp1m6dxePtw5HOX3_vo0Xn9Wm2Ybt1J1LHcvySu9XmItYroNM/s1600/Elizabeth2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="155" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2d-vW6fZm2nNbIzuz1Jx7TaMsjTtzDH3m7spd3sCh02rHsh8bTLq4vUxUEx1XBH8zhZ-_rvqwY9HPDhDJMAr_kWGm2jFp1m6dxePtw5HOX3_vo0Xn9Wm2Ybt1J1LHcvySu9XmItYroNM/s320/Elizabeth2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
She made her block from Joel Dewberry's Heritage fabric in the Citrine colorway. It is beautiful fabric. One of the many benefits of participating in a bee like this is getting to see a wide variety of fabrics that I would never see in the local quilt shop. The block is in the mail and on its way to Oregon for its next stop.<br />
<br />
I hope you and your families are well and enjoying the summer weather.<br />

I don't know if that encourages freedom or indecision, but I still embrace the concept. Which explains why I have decided to change my <span style="background-color: white;">starter block for the Around the World Bee.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is my starter (for keeps, it's been mailed):</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn7AfkLz6C0NabBHuUjsfnnDvAqRTaWFiQk0XuPxJRqNQn8xoGdwGPA_rO9dFt5I5BvxM6audczMLFa7_Tjq1Tq0pW9h3rhOIyHNfVC_ap4-BQWklbCmNBZUjD4BvQgmTwT9EBXRbn_c8/s1600/AroundtheWorld.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn7AfkLz6C0NabBHuUjsfnnDvAqRTaWFiQk0XuPxJRqNQn8xoGdwGPA_rO9dFt5I5BvxM6audczMLFa7_Tjq1Tq0pW9h3rhOIyHNfVC_ap4-BQWklbCmNBZUjD4BvQgmTwT9EBXRbn_c8/s400/AroundtheWorld.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love paper-pieced stars. I have decided to ask the group to make me a star, using the blues and greens</div>
<div>
I have used in this starter block. The block has been moving at lightening speed and two more stars have <span style="background-color: white;">been added to the package and they are stunning. I am excited to watch the quilt grow as it makes 23 more</span></div>
<div>
stops at various points around the world.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The block pattern came from my EQ compass star pattern library, but I changed some lines around to make it my own.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It has been windy, foggy and cold here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The sun is shining today and promises to be warmer. I hope you are having a nice weekend.</div>

I have joined another bee. I have joined an international bee that has just begun a second round, called Quilt Around the World. There are some talented quilters in this group so I know I will enjoy making new friends and a lot of new blocks.<br />
<br />
I chose my starter block today. It is Lone Starburst.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipJvyKxwQES6DRy35FvO7TQW9_sf_50AzATdgCedi4OocJ0rMbQtHesZWch6JienIVWBoNFOqVP_qXX4SuaBpGnyKXuw3mKVn_ytHKLXpIjZ_NzcW627vS6F8HzAlHxucR3sQ_-_5q-Ko/s1600/starter%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" fba="true" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipJvyKxwQES6DRy35FvO7TQW9_sf_50AzATdgCedi4OocJ0rMbQtHesZWch6JienIVWBoNFOqVP_qXX4SuaBpGnyKXuw3mKVn_ytHKLXpIjZ_NzcW627vS6F8HzAlHxucR3sQ_-_5q-Ko/s320/starter%5B1%5D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have admired this block since it started appearing on Flickr about six months ago. I have seen it with various names, "Lone Star," "Rainbow Star," "Lone Starburst." I am not sure who originally designed it but I used the tutorial at <a href="http://www.four-white-horses.blogspot/">http://www.four-white-horses.blogspot/</a>. It is paper-pieced and surprisingly easy to make.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am looking forward to getting to know the 23 quilters who are participating in this project from countries around the world, and I am excited to see what new things I learn in the process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are having a wonderful weekend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

In the Journal Round Robin Bee, Melissa asked for a pinwheel block. She has just moved into a new home and said she was in the mood for blocks of bright, cheerful colors to use in a new quilt for her home.<br />
<br />
I am not a big fan of pinwheels. I know it is a well-loved traditional block but they remind me of daggers and knives. So I made a block for Melissa that was intended to soften the look of the pinwheel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglVXwFXJ1bUwnruXLseDLf_1D_b-Bk8SxlCuHu0aOyQgjDtDgiMmbbxFMCRMRcxg3pi7R3QW9qFXUUynkGT1N8FecZ7NF2-vWRxP5_NsdGHGUUbyI-i793Qzb116ABs4CrUyGzdNnxhMY/s1600/Pinwheel2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglVXwFXJ1bUwnruXLseDLf_1D_b-Bk8SxlCuHu0aOyQgjDtDgiMmbbxFMCRMRcxg3pi7R3QW9qFXUUynkGT1N8FecZ7NF2-vWRxP5_NsdGHGUUbyI-i793Qzb116ABs4CrUyGzdNnxhMY/s320/Pinwheel2.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I put a light colored star behind it to draw your eye away from the red polka dot daggers. I love print and I love color, but this was a little too much for even me. So I tried again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOvrmhkqZpKNss_eUXjPR4jYfH3iXC2sOXVYXVLrBIrmnLnRbf7M3xzfIW1WaLdmacoqzSrTvAi0knvtWFBn2if5m54ce9JJiOZKDuTWNZSq_gRMbTCSWdvEqyboy2WHLMusyjUfdsqLU/s1600/Pinwheel1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOvrmhkqZpKNss_eUXjPR4jYfH3iXC2sOXVYXVLrBIrmnLnRbf7M3xzfIW1WaLdmacoqzSrTvAi0knvtWFBn2if5m54ce9JJiOZKDuTWNZSq_gRMbTCSWdvEqyboy2WHLMusyjUfdsqLU/s320/Pinwheel1.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Same block, different color placement, highlighting just the star and the pinwheel. And there they are...the daggers...I mean the pinwheels. I like this less complex block better. I am going to have to get over the fear of pinwheels and move on!<br />
<br />

This is the quilt I designed and made for them as a wedding gift. I hope they will use it and enjoy it for years to come.<br />

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I am still having a hard time believing George is married. In my mind, he is still ten years old, sitting quietly in a corner playing video games during family gatherings. I did witness his marriage with my own eyes, so I know it's so. Their families couldn't be happier for them. Congratulations and blessings on you both, George and Allyson.<br />

I drew the first two and sewed them this week. Here are blocks one and two:<br />

<br />
In my last post I explained the Modern Quilt Guild's block challenge. You can submit up to three 12 1/2" by any other dimension block, using only the colors in the Guild's logo. I am going to submit a third block which will be more abstract than these. I have a preliminary idea but it needs a little more time to percolate. <br />
<br />
These blocks were fun to design. Normally I would not use all solids in a block so I had to step a little out of my comfort zone, but once I got started it was a blast. Now I am looking forward to pushing myself a little further. There have been some beautiful and unusal blocks submitted so far. See them in the Flickr group here <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/quiltconblockchallenge/">http://www.flickr.com/groups/quiltconblockchallenge/</a>.<br />
<br />
This is sure to be a very special and unique quilt!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjct2TyEbW3jCRMGJJGQRW7v9t2OQnvUMGqE65ttNhgYYwoNAE6fQqDoFNDe-K5LgEnb5YqSv5Qx62PlAT21EmJiHTl2i-FabH3ApXfJifXPBkLcezI2Rfse0isfH4sMHzH9WVlNJ4WgUY/s1600/CroppedFabric-288x300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjct2TyEbW3jCRMGJJGQRW7v9t2OQnvUMGqE65ttNhgYYwoNAE6fQqDoFNDe-K5LgEnb5YqSv5Qx62PlAT21EmJiHTl2i-FabH3ApXfJifXPBkLcezI2Rfse0isfH4sMHzH9WVlNJ4WgUY/s1600/CroppedFabric-288x300.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't these colors sing? They are the colors used in Quilt Con's logo. (Quilt Con is the annual quilt show sponsored by the Modern Quilt Guild - but you knew that.)<br />
<br />
So this is the challenge: make a 12 1/2" inch tall by any width block (i.e. 12 1/2" x 5 1/2" or 12 1/2" by 24" - it is your choice) using the Quilt Con logo colors: tangerine, gold, citrine, lime, aqua, turquoise, white, and gray. You cannot add any other colors. You may submit up to three blocks. The contest closes on August 15th, 2012.<br />
<br />
The challenge will be moderated by Elizabeth Hartman of ohfransson.com. After August 15, Elizabeth will select 20 or more of her favorite blocks and will use them to make a quilt that will be displayed at QuiltCon and awarded, by raffle, to a lucky winner. Raffle tickets will only be sold at QuiltCon, and ticket sales will benefit The Modern Quilt Guild.<br />
<br />
Each submission must be accompanied by an entry form that can be found here <a href="http://www.quiltcon.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Block-Challenge-Entry-Form.pdf">Challenge Entry Form</a>.<br />
<br />
I am looking forward to seeing some amazing blocks in this challenge.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cindy likes soft, feminine colors and asked for a block of any size that would complement her block. She also added that she really loves red, so would like some red-toned fabric in the block, if possible.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
I love this block pattern and even though there are lots of seams to line up, it's worth the trouble. I received a charm pack of five-inch squares as a gift last year and I was not sure how I would use them. They were perfect for this project. Don't you love it when that happens?<br />
<br />
I have to finish writing in Cindy's journal and then it's off to the post office to send this package to its next stop in Southern California.<br />
<br />
I hope the weather is as wonderful where you live as it is here today in Northern California!<br />

She designed a quilt for Janome called Patchwork Prism.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Isn't this beautiful? I love the hexagons that are created as a secondary design and the colors sing. You can download the pattern for this quilt <a href="http://www.janomespecials.com/annamaria/pdfs/AMH-Patchwork-Prism-Quilt.pdf">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Bianca over at SweetDieselDesigns.com is hosting a quilt-along making this quilt and it is just getting started. The prizes in this quilt-along are very nice, including a new Janome sewing machine. Click on over and check it out! I am looking forward to seeing the progress in the Flickr group.<br />

And, yes, they are just as cute as they look in the photo.<br />
<br />
This is my first experience with digitally printed fabric. I have washed the fabric in cold water. I am happy to say that there was very, very limited loss of color after the wash. I was also happy to see that the quality of the cotton the designs are printed on is of quilt shop quality and there was minimal shrinkage.<br />
<br />
The fabric was, indeed, designed by Laurie Wisbrun of Scarlet Fig (Etsy). She has some wonderful new fabric that has just been released that celebrates the Olympics in England this summer. (You might also know her as the designer of the "Tufted Tweets" line!) So please do visit her shop on Etsy and take a look at what this very talented designer has to offer!<br />
<br />
Today I settled on a design for the block and I hope to get started on the quilt tomorrow.<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

<br />
How cute are these llamas? And the Peruvian hats? Double cute.<br />
<br />
I saw a photo posted by Donna (Seahorse Quilts) on Flicker yesterday and had to find out where she found this fabric. The answer: Laurie Wisbruns' Scarletfig shop on Etsy.<br />
<br />
I ordered all three of these fabrics today and saw that they are original designs and are digitally printed. I have inquired if Laurie is the talented designer behind these prints (I suspect she is). I have not yet worked with a digitally printed fabric so I am very interested to see how it reacts to washing and how the quality compares to what we find in the local quilt shop.<br />
<br />
I have been working all afternoon on a quilt pattern that will feature these darling llamas. Cannot wait to see the fabric. :)<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

She hinted that she would love to have something paper-pieced. She also asked that we avoid pinwheels. This is my block for Joanna:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGIa5oySkTqJDC3tVmJWIRhXRe5GgFMUMF8pDAy2PYktI1uXdQY08BlFn1CqxM_FYujm3NOhjZzItVho6wstVXIx0l-5DTX8sVHHQRM8Z2BG092eOnriYvq9hq_FJ7fDBE50Y23MQnOZs/s1600/joanna.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGIa5oySkTqJDC3tVmJWIRhXRe5GgFMUMF8pDAy2PYktI1uXdQY08BlFn1CqxM_FYujm3NOhjZzItVho6wstVXIx0l-5DTX8sVHHQRM8Z2BG092eOnriYvq9hq_FJ7fDBE50Y23MQnOZs/s320/joanna.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started the design by using a snowflake block from the EQ7 block library, but guess what was in the middle of the block? That's right - a pinwheel. So I removed the pinwheel shape and drew a star in the center of the block and slightly changed the angle of the light grey segment. I love the way it turned out. I like it much better than the original design.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I packed it up and sent it on its way home to North Carolina yesterday. I look forward to seeing Joanna's completed quilt.</div>

I am a Pinterest junkie. I can sit and look at the amazing photos for far longer than I should. For the last several weeks I have been seeing this pin pop up on lots of boards:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEircysBV2cDcgVG59H1ot3sJd397T-xPvQ20sAYfLfwhi2lZ4byhY7OsC-mBw69A7RxqKWXB72T0SKEdRYXQ8WEvDfU7tf2k2UJZMTp1xMI0EP9aKSm5zKwz6qPgt4nstegKNiQXATWQ4U/s1600/Pinterest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEircysBV2cDcgVG59H1ot3sJd397T-xPvQ20sAYfLfwhi2lZ4byhY7OsC-mBw69A7RxqKWXB72T0SKEdRYXQ8WEvDfU7tf2k2UJZMTp1xMI0EP9aKSm5zKwz6qPgt4nstegKNiQXATWQ4U/s320/Pinterest.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
Hmmm. I know I did not carefully read the pages of small print under "Terms of Use" when I signed up for my Pinterest account, so I decided to click through and find the original pin for this message and what I read really concerned me.<br />
<br />
If you have pinned a photo that is not yours, you can be sued for copyright enfringement. If you <u>repin</u> a photo that is not yours, you can be sued for copyright enfringement. (What? Isn't that the whole idea?) If you pin one of your own photos onto a board, it becomes the property of Pinterest. They now own it and control it.<br />
<br />
Wait? What? I thought the whole idea was to share ideas. Click a photo of food and it takes you to the original website so you can copy the recipe. Awesome. Click a photo of a craft project and it takes you to the original website so you can see the tutorial for making it yourself. Awesome. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately, copyright enfringement has become a monster for Pinterest. The message I read included a link that you could use to check to see if any of your photos have been pinned without your permission. I clicked the link and I was shocked to see several dozen of my photos from Flickr and many photos from this blog pinned on boards without crediting me as the originator of the photos. Two of the pinners credited my work as being their own.<br />
<br />
So, if you do not want others pinning your Flickr photos, go to your Privacy Settings and next to the "Allow others to share your stuff" button, click "No Pin." This will prevent others from using your photos. The only way to get credit for your blog photos is to watermark them before you post them. From now on, I will be very selective about what I pin!<br />

"Seriously?" "Isn't that something grandmothers do?"<br />
<br />
I am sure there are grandmothers who quilt, but the craft is no longer dominated by elderly women sitting around a quilting frame in the neighborhood church basement.<br />
<br />
Take a look at this quilt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSlNvNLmlZJ97YczAixhOZX-o2gSmuiKNHWtp3pBpYXG0dV0GOvQvIi06Op5f0oAGwOS40OW9dTZuVuDNsYz8w2q_0oAZQ4oiUUJzvr_xM311D5o5nnsaCJ1kLrbgoEHokl6BZEk-LQm4/s1600/BlogQuilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSlNvNLmlZJ97YczAixhOZX-o2gSmuiKNHWtp3pBpYXG0dV0GOvQvIi06Op5f0oAGwOS40OW9dTZuVuDNsYz8w2q_0oAZQ4oiUUJzvr_xM311D5o5nnsaCJ1kLrbgoEHokl6BZEk-LQm4/s400/BlogQuilt.jpg" uda="true" width="276" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<em><Via Carol Welsheimer's Quilt Board on Pinterest></em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
(I am sorry I cannot credit its maker as I was not able to find a link to the original photo. If you happen to recognize it, let me know. I would love to post credit.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wow. I saw this photo on Pinterest yesterday and it made me stop to think about how far quilting has come in the last 20 years. This quilt is amazingly beautiful in its color and complexity of design. It was made by an artist. Quilting has jumped the traditional craft fence and exploded. More and more young women are being drawn to quilting through the Modern Quilt movement, attracted by its simple techniques and bold use of color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
According to research done by TNS Global recently published in Quilter's Newsletter, there were 21 million quilters in the U.S. in 2010. During that year, each quilter spent an average of $219 on their craft (uh-oh, can't let hubby see that - I am above average). That amount was up 27% from 2006, making quilting a $3.58 billion industry -- and that was during the Great Recession. Obviously, there are a lot of people excited by this art form. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So the next time someone looks at me with pity and shakes their head when I tell them I quilt, I will simply reply, "What? YOU don't?" :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<br />
In the Journal Round Robin Bee, Vickie asked for a star block of any size, using pieces of an adorable owl print. This is Vickie's starter block:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZM_GWp9-u59296LBQYlAbD9v1I5A81Fptxf-qKFd0Wt8Ntes1PJn79oPyJqhgttQ0as1bIRq_ERyNVxeQWSUM3Ux5rC4i0LCQi8qY4LZYGTZZNzMFg_h-P6MCBcwCs4hyphenhyphenEkCbkCSJGPg/s1600/Vickie+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZM_GWp9-u59296LBQYlAbD9v1I5A81Fptxf-qKFd0Wt8Ntes1PJn79oPyJqhgttQ0as1bIRq_ERyNVxeQWSUM3Ux5rC4i0LCQi8qY4LZYGTZZNzMFg_h-P6MCBcwCs4hyphenhyphenEkCbkCSJGPg/s320/Vickie+001.jpg" uda="true" width="320" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She asked that we use fabrics that would go well with her color choices in this block. I had a block in mind for her but when the bundle arrived, the block I was going to make for her had already been made by another member of the bee. Drat! So I designed my own block for her and I hope she likes it. This is mine:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqHTbJhhLMrL3DSAhL0RrDRyz4HXBKDFihbiDqF5Eiox07xcVROuvEe3GQtaJtMWRVHUGyo9w-diVMB0CpSBHFqYugrDEs0noLdpyPomMIY6RV042d413HMQHosnDKyBP9w4-cGN1Rg7k/s1600/Vickie+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqHTbJhhLMrL3DSAhL0RrDRyz4HXBKDFihbiDqF5Eiox07xcVROuvEe3GQtaJtMWRVHUGyo9w-diVMB0CpSBHFqYugrDEs0noLdpyPomMIY6RV042d413HMQHosnDKyBP9w4-cGN1Rg7k/s320/Vickie+002.jpg" uda="true" width="317" /></a></div>
<br />
The star points in the center of the block are strudy perches for her owls. The star points at the back of the block acknowledge how important faith is in Vickie's life. Her journal page that accompanied this package attests to the fact that she feels very empowered by her faith. I really liked the angled, scrappy border she used on her block, so I used something similar. I wanted this block to feel very personal without being overtly religious. I hope she enjoys it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVhum4qH32sud6CFAMjZ7GqQohPZ11a4O9UfdfD3cFsD2zNVUHKosiNr2zQ7IH1MMZEinn7qQPtR9OIDYnIAt81ajgVehzEAzTlnk4RKWJh-3GN4bam0pZg9j91ZmHYnhSyMKcn8XEVXA/s1600/Vickie+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVhum4qH32sud6CFAMjZ7GqQohPZ11a4O9UfdfD3cFsD2zNVUHKosiNr2zQ7IH1MMZEinn7qQPtR9OIDYnIAt81ajgVehzEAzTlnk4RKWJh-3GN4bam0pZg9j91ZmHYnhSyMKcn8XEVXA/s320/Vickie+003.jpg" uda="true" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I do not have any other bee packages that need work (thank goodness), so now it is time to turn my energy to catching up on the Farmer's Wife project. I am at least eight blocks behind so it is time to head to my sewing maching.<br />

<br />
The first two blocks are for Cindy in Eugene, Oregon. Cindy sent us two 10" squares of beach-sand colored fabric and asked for beach/sea themed blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvB0Goc5yYHl1LBwVYUVHAYuUReutd53-D1yaw8uz8YYuRtWg_FC8bybsBBFr_dazG8uVPey1F2rR47VJm7knudqc9kS3S2aNu_XtVDT4ZMrb9nKqgBpvYW_NpKuhlaCbOLpIO0unkgBA/s1600/Cindy+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvB0Goc5yYHl1LBwVYUVHAYuUReutd53-D1yaw8uz8YYuRtWg_FC8bybsBBFr_dazG8uVPey1F2rR47VJm7knudqc9kS3S2aNu_XtVDT4ZMrb9nKqgBpvYW_NpKuhlaCbOLpIO0unkgBA/s320/Cindy+001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A fish, of course...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAsF4CQ_YFpyGX1eCUoot8RU828LPyl7nZfNfdRKYNeDK33H60HYN1lTT76BvgEEn1fWXWpsBX_YLzgnFX8_LnPG8BClqP2F762vYqsFvOPyZCqTp1rlO9XQHWkGA3IA9Z845aiHaVUJA/s1600/Cindy+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAsF4CQ_YFpyGX1eCUoot8RU828LPyl7nZfNfdRKYNeDK33H60HYN1lTT76BvgEEn1fWXWpsBX_YLzgnFX8_LnPG8BClqP2F762vYqsFvOPyZCqTp1rlO9XQHWkGA3IA9Z845aiHaVUJA/s320/Cindy+004.jpg" width="310" /></a></div>
...and another member of the bee had made her a darling appliqued lighthouse, so I made a boat to go with it.<br />
<br />
Next, came a package from Lisa in Chicago. Lisa had a very creative idea for her quilt. She asked that each of us make a block representing where we live. Lisa's starter block was the Chicago skyline done in machine applique. She has received some wonderful blocks in this bee and the quilt is sure to be beautiful. This is mine:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1GvuIDAuvQ_VtM6g_nb6M4NSLYkrn1nmjJ-7i30IHa__0v4iaDz8tFTrPU5vAaO4HuBzzWSCQxPDaGYKGKIwqrgjW3T-rfWmwVlGduLRlfMzxHbZ3mwJE-Jh4981WNF9Qy3GEdr36d3g/s1600/Cindy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1GvuIDAuvQ_VtM6g_nb6M4NSLYkrn1nmjJ-7i30IHa__0v4iaDz8tFTrPU5vAaO4HuBzzWSCQxPDaGYKGKIwqrgjW3T-rfWmwVlGduLRlfMzxHbZ3mwJE-Jh4981WNF9Qy3GEdr36d3g/s320/Cindy.jpg" width="309" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The block represents San Francisco landmarks (from left to right): the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, Nob Hill apartments, the Marriott Hotel, the TransAmerica Pyramid, the Museum of Modern Art, the Bank of America tower, the Pacific Stock Exchange and the Embarcadero Center. The sun lit hills of Marin County in the background, and the Oakland Hills in the foreground.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This block was fun to make, particularly finding fabric in my stash that had an architectural feel. It was not fun cutting out and sewing the teeny tiny pieces for the bridge towers. The tower on the left is a little wonky at the top, but the piece of fabric was so small, the needle of the machine distorted the threads of the fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is finished and in the mail for its next stop in Southern California.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the moment, I have no other bee projects so I am hoping to jump back into the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along which I have completely ignored for two months.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks so much for reading along, and hope all is well with you and your families.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Angelina; font-size: 22pt; line-height: 115%;">Until next time,</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Angelina; font-size: 26pt; line-height: 115%;"> Joan</span></div>

I have spent the last week sewing like crazy to catch up on unfinished projects. I received three bee envelopes in the mail on Tuesday, putting me even further behind.<br />
<br />
Today I finished my block for Sara in the Journal Round Robin Bee. This is it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh-dq6lN_nmGraQ4SZB5zGMfYqLRx3mpbo-5kTqkKXAKmj3CR0unZKmZl13fTG9wS8ncD87D9a6AlrSOulwr12TG43saI4YIzDIa5CaBOAW4XKmvrxc9qLGpaqO6SgdLjChGTyA8rNAo0/s1600/Sara+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh-dq6lN_nmGraQ4SZB5zGMfYqLRx3mpbo-5kTqkKXAKmj3CR0unZKmZl13fTG9wS8ncD87D9a6AlrSOulwr12TG43saI4YIzDIa5CaBOAW4XKmvrxc9qLGpaqO6SgdLjChGTyA8rNAo0/s320/Sara+002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern is called Spinnaker. It is one of my favorite compass patterns. Sara asked for a compass block made from Bali Batiks. I would not have thought to use batiks for a compass but the result is very pretty. The blocks have a stained glass appearance.<br />
<br />
Here is Sara's group of blocks so far:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-YBXCqbAY2noiEVBM7Rwd_am_MPRzg_bND7Sxyp3HXqlSue6IIJf4HZBoq9Y9L1a_U7qd9GSTC5edLAXhHMj84H0upbjsOu9zhgYmuGYs1LIuW0cXLS_BbpeRGt1-uQ75aXMV8NcDWOI/s1600/Sara+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-YBXCqbAY2noiEVBM7Rwd_am_MPRzg_bND7Sxyp3HXqlSue6IIJf4HZBoq9Y9L1a_U7qd9GSTC5edLAXhHMj84H0upbjsOu9zhgYmuGYs1LIuW0cXLS_BbpeRGt1-uQ75aXMV8NcDWOI/s320/Sara+001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lots of variety in size, shape and color combinations. I am sure it will be a striking quilt when it is finished. <br />
<br />
Back to the sewing room to do some more catching up!<br />
